Founded by victim advocate Nikki T. Hamilton, A Promise Kept™ Foundation exists because promises deserve to be kept. And no one should walk the journey of violent crime alone.

Letter written by Nikki T. Hamilton to Angel Ormston that inspired the founding of A Promise Kept Foundation victim advocacy nonprofit.

A Promise Kept — Nikki Hamilton’s Promise to Angel Ormston

The promise that began it all.

In 1995, as a young girl grieving the loss of my friend, Angel Ormston, I wrote a letter that would shape the rest of my life. In it, I promised Angel she would never be forgotten — and that I would stand by her family and fight for justice for as long as I lived.

I didn’t know then that a child’s vow would become a lifelong calling. I didn’t know it would lead me into courtrooms, parole hearings, victim-services offices, or to families experiencing the same darkness I once felt. I didn’t know it would become the blueprint for a foundation.

But I did know one thing: A promise made in the deepest pain can become the greatest source of purpose.

A Promise Kept™ Foundation was created from that vow — a commitment to ensure no victim or family ever walks the long, overwhelming journey of violence, loss, and the justice system alone.

Today, that promise lives on in everything we do:

  • Standing with victims and survivors through every step of the process

  • Supporting families navigating grief, court, parole, and unanswered questions

  • Making sure voices are heard — especially when systems fall silent

  • Offering guidance built from lived experience, clarity, and compassion

My promise to Angel became a promise to every family who needs someone in their corner
